Hooks are overgrowths of teeth from unopposed wear. These were cut from 311 and 411 in an 11 year old TB and the remaining tooth was filed level with the rest of the arcade.

311 & 411 hooks cut from an 8 yr old TB G. A movie was made of me cutting these hooks. He also had an S5 sharp score with a U3 ulcer score. He has difficulty flexing at the poll when bridled.
This hook the size of my thumbnail was removed from 211. The edge facing you was as sharp as you see it and facing the opposing gum. The cut surface is facing away from you.
This is the end on view of the hook. You can see how sharp the edge is. The tip is flattened either from stropping or it was becoming embedded in the opposing gum line.
