Sacro-iliac bump (also known as a hunter’s bump) in a 5 year old warmblood. This gelding has just past a thorough pre-purchase exam and there was nothing found in the area to suggest a problem. The big hips on this horse are more prominent because he is underweight (BCS 5) and has a parasite load (no fecal exam but ewe neck, low BCS, poor hair coat). Only time will tell if this will help the jumper to have the power needed to jump or will become a problem over time. These bumps are often more visible when there is muscle loss in the area. They are also often non-painful.
