Horse K - Food packed around the incisors as the tongue is unable to keep the area clean. NOTICE- the tongue has kept the 3/401's worn down. Also see the wear marks (white on the incisor) on the sides of the displaced 1/201's and the labial surface of 3/401.

An old horse with unusual wearing of the upper incisors. The horse does not exhibit any oral vices, however, the movement of his tongue was rapid like a snake, curling upwards, and alternated from one side to the other suggesting this was caused by unusual tongue movement. Also notice that there is no mirror image of the lower incisors over erupting into the lost upper corner incisors. This illustrates that the tongue is the primary shaper of the soft enamel of the incisors.

Excessive waring of the incisors caused by excessive licking. There is a video of this horse licking as she stands in her stall.

Abnormal wearing of the incisors including receding gums on the upper 3's. My speculation is that the tongue has done all of this in this horse in his late 20's. In addition the receding gum line may be early stages of EOTRH.

The labial surface of these incisors have a black coating of unknown origin. I usually associate this with a legume pasture (clover, alfalfa) but the owner did not know the content of her pastures over the years. Also notice the white areas on the 2's where the tongue has worn away or prevented the black deposit.

These incisors are level across. Notice that the tongue is waring symmetrically the incisors (white enamel areas). Also note that the palate bulges in front of the tongue creating a thick pad there which is common. Also note that the gum line of all incisors are receding and are developing a ridge and that there is debris along the gum line of the upper incisors that the tongue is unable to clean. These may be signs of developing EOTRH.
