Always lead the foal in fron of the mare - teaches the foal leadership, how to lead, and definately not to follow. This is the 2 person technique. The person leading the mare needs to pay attention to the foal to avoid being kicked. The person leading the foal needs to keep the foal next to her, not behind her or again, the foal will be taught how to follow. Dogs are extra but are not a bother here.
