This semi trailer is a taxi for horses traveling between Belmont and Aqueduct race tracks in NY.  The grooms ride in the back with the horses - a tradition since they started shipping horses. The wheels are small to allow more space inside for the horses.

This is a horse trailer on an old Freightliner tractor exactly like the one I drove in 1974. It has been modified with the removal of one truck axle making the wheelbase very long which smooths the ride but makes it less maneuverable in tight places.

This is a Bristol horse trailer on a semi-truck. The trailer wheels are at the end, making the ride smooth. The trailer’s floor is high enough to accommodate the wheels without reducing the floor space for horses, but the internal loading ramp is steep. Using an external loading ramp helps.
